Dr. Sonia Nixon graduated from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of the University of Havana with a degree in Medicine. Most of her career has been dedicated to primary/preventive healthcare.

In 2012, she earned a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University School of Public Health, focusing on social and behavioral sciences and Global Health. Since her return to Grenada in 2016, Dr. Nixon has focused on primary prevention of Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases, engaged as Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, serving as Interim Chairperson of the Grenada Cancer Society, and working with other community-based health organizations like the Grenada Diabetes Association.

She initiated research focused on Knowledge and Behaviors related to COVID-19 in Grenada, providing ongoing education of the public on matters related to disease prevention and early screening. She led the development of Grenada's National Childhood Prevention Policy and is an active member of the Grenada National Non-communicable Chronic Disease Commission.

Dr. Nixon is passionate about patient empowerment, provider education and capacitation, research, and the application of local information for health system strengthening.
